Seeing RED: Dye, Print, Stitch Enter, or continue your journey into the exciting world of natural dyeing, colour, texture and stitch. In the three-part workshop you will: Dive into natural dyeing and experience the fascinating realm of colour shifting using natural dyes with textiles artist Michelle Ault. Use madder root and modifiers to produce reds, oranges, yellows, pinks and purples on pre mordanted linen, cotton, canvas, wool and silk pieces. Submerge fabrics and threads in a dye bath and use madder dye to make marks on paper Madder is one of the oldest known natural dyestuffs, its roots have been used for thousands of years to produce long lasting reds. Use the dyed textiles samples as a base on which to screen-print a design of ‘killer plants’ (of which Madder is one) with Becca Smith. You will learn about plants which are used to kill and cure, as medicine and poison in the natural world of botanical apothecary. Create an authentic, vibrant embroidery art piece using only simple stitches. You will compose a one-of-a-kind textile collage or range of samples to fuel your passion as you step into the intriguing world of natural dyeing and stitch. The possibilities are endless… All materials are provided, including fabrics and threads to dye yourself and a range of madder ready dyed fabrics for you to use. Embroidery and woollen threads are also included and you can take away a pouch of fabrics and threads for further projects. The short course is suitable for complete beginners and people with more experience to work at their own pace.
